Studying in Porto

The business school in which I study is placed in very beautiful Portuguese town Porto

The program “The Magellan MBA” is very small, only 19 students. All students are with different backgrounds (dentist, consultant MCKinsey, entrepreneurs, etc.). people arrived from 11 countries around the world.

It is the most difficult for me to work in the teams. Before MBA I hated to work in the teams, always avoided it, and never paid attention to this. I've just chose individual and independence work. But in business school students should do almost all homework in the teams. I do not feel any responsibility for collective result =). I understand now that team work is my weak side and during my staying I should check it. Another my weak point is my written and spoken English. But it tends to be better and much better.

  I study Portuguese. In fact I could read Portuguese newspaper and understand 70% of information even before my arrival to Portugal due to some Portuguese words are resemble to English ones, some are resemble to Russian, some to Ukrainian. But I do not understand spoken language at all. My progress is not to high but after half of year I will be able to speak (I hope)

I clearly know what I am going to do after graduation and I feel that MBA will help me!  

Arrival at Business School

Hello readers. I did not write for a lot time, but I will do. So my news:

I was admitted to the Magellan MBA developed by University of Porto Business School. I've arrived to Porto several days ago. Classes will start next Monday.

Pictures and interesting posts will be soon. Now I can say that Porto is wonderful place.

Working class and MBA

It is trivial fact that people who study on MBA have different background. But have you ever seen person who before enrolling has experience of work as a mine worker, concrete worker, refueling operator, lader, cashier in the supermarket etc? May be I will be the first one. Surely I was a journalist, and it was my work to get a such job, and after that write a reportage about my journey to newspaper. (My employers did not know that I was an journalist.) But biggest part of time I spent not in office but in the factories and another places where I worked.

It is my co-worker. He earned more money than me, because his work was very dangerous. He had to immerse hand to cement-mixer and extract stones from it. Sometimes cement-mixer turned on oneself, so workers lost their hands. It was a terrible working conditions. When article with this photo was published authority obliged owners of this factory to buy a new cement-mixer, that was more safe

Drinking alcohol is the best way to relax during working shift that longs during 11 hours.

Maybe it was one of the most interesting period of my career, because in all new professions I met very different people with different values, problems, life goals, wages etc. and in Every new place I had ought to build good relationship with another workers and bosses. In short it is very interesting to communicate with different people.

And one of reasons (not main) why I want to apply for MBA is that I like to communicate with people from different countries with different background. And MBA will give me a possibility to do so. mykola tymoshenko
